It all started with Samsung Galaxy Note, a handset which was bigger than the conventional mobile phones and a device which was a lot smaller than a tablet. It was quite confusing for people to categorize this product, some called it a phone, others called it a tablet but the industry needed a new term for it, and this was how Phablet was BORN!
After the successful entry of Note in the phablet segment a lot of Indian player tried their luck in the same, many of them got success too. One of the key players in the same segment is Micromax which recently came out with a 5 inch phablet- A116 Canvas HD, enjoying a good response since its release. Another phablet which is launched recently is the Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro, basically a revised version of its predecessor- Galaxy Grand.
We will be doing a comparison between the two phablets mentioned above. But before that, let us give you a quick introduction of both these devices.
Micromax A116 Canvas HDis the company`s flagship model priced at Rs. 13,990.The specifications which this phablet flaunts can give a lot of high-end devices a run for their money. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro priced at Rs. 16,375 is successor to a highly successful phablet from Samsung – Galaxy Grand which was launched at the same time when Canvas HD came in the market. Let’s find out where these handsets stand against each other.
In terms of designing Grand Quattrois smaller and thinner among the two, it measures9.7 mm whereas Canvas HD is 10.7 mm at its thickest. Quattro is comparatively lighter at 143 grams when compared with Canvas HD which weighs 156 grams.
Both the handsets sports a glossy back panel but the one which we get in Quattro looks more classy and elegant, it is because Canvas HD features a pearl white color which sometimes look yellowish.
Grand Quattro sports a 4.7-inch capacitive, multi-touch TFT display which offers16M colors, 199 ppiand 480 x 800 pixels res., on the other hand Canvas HD comes with 5-inch capacitive, multi-touch IPS display whichoffers16M colors, 294 ppi and 720 x 1280 pixels res.
Here, Canvas HD is a clear winner as its ppi (pixel per inch) is far better than of Quattro. The viewing angles, colors and the entire viewing experience isbetter with Canvas HD.
Processing Power & Software
Both these phablets come with 1.2 GHz Quad Core Processor and 1GB RAM. Internal memory of Quattro (8GB) is double than that of Canvas HD (4GB) but both of them can expand their external memory up to 32GB. Overall performance of both these handsets is similar but we do felt Quattro a bit smoother while playing games and switching between the applications.
The camera which we get with Galaxy Grand Quattro is of 5MP Auto Focus with flash at the back and 0.3MP VGA on the front. Whereas Micromax A116 Canvas HD sports an 8MP Auto Focus rear camera with flash, records full HD videos as well as a 2MP front facing camera.
As far as camera capability and productivity is concerned, Canvas HD is way ahead from Quattro. The pictures with Canvas HD came out really well and the video clarity too is a delight at this price point. But the camera interface which we get in Quattro is quite impressive as compared to the one which we get in Canvas HD. Still, all that matter is the output of the camera, which is clearly better in the case of canvas HD.
