Google Voice to end access to third party apps by May 2014
Google Voice is all set to crack down on the support of third party application by the next year .
In a statement Google said that it is ending support for apps that are unauthorized and are making use of Google Voice” by facilitating calling and SMS services. Nikhyl Singhal, director of real-time communications said “These apps violate our terms of service and pose a threat to your security.” The app makers will be notified and apparently have until May 15, 2014 for the transition of their user to another service .
Singhal said that today’s update to the app will (and its SMS support) only works with Google Voice numbers if you have the service enabled on your Sprint phone, Singhal further added that Hangout would support sending from Google Voice numbers early next year. He further goes on to say that the company is also working to offer Google Voice phone numbers outside the US and support MMS, but we need to work with carriers and this can take some time.
