Harman Kardon Esquire 2 Review- A Classy and Loud Bluetooth Speaker with Quad Mic
• Loud Output
• Rich bass
• Excellent Bluetooth connectivity
• Simple yet elegant design
• Ideal for conference calling
• Lacks waterproof construction
• Average battery life
• Not enough additional accessories
Harman Kardon manufactures one of the best audio quality products in the market. Quality, not only signifies sound output but there are loads of other characteristics that cover up in quality. Apart from sound, there is product quality, connectivity, battery life, look and feel and a stylish design that differentiates a normal product from a premium product. Harman understands the premium segment extraordinarily well. And it delivers that knowledge in its products. Let’s check out how Harman Kardon Esquire 2 is different from any other Bluetooth speaker out there.
Look and Design: 8/10
The latest Harman Kardon Esquire 2 looks like a bulky diary kept in a shelf. The sturdy plastic body design has a smoother finish which gives it a first-class charm. It has a plastic finish on front while the rear has leatherette with a pop out stand made up of shiny chrome. There are 5 battery indicator LED lights that are placed on the left side of the speaker, while the controls are located on the top.
The Esquire 2 measures 3.6×5.1×1.3-inches in dimensions which makes it bigger than most of the Bluetooth speakers, and does bear a resemblance to a clutch purse. Esquire 2 weighs 600 grams and sits horizontally on the surface. It has an aluminium finish along the edges with most of the controls positioned on top and the ports placed at the right side.
The black mesh finishing of Esquire 2 on front produces sound, whereas the kickstand on the backside helps it in vertical placement. For connectivity, Esquire 2 offers a USB and USB-mini port along with one 3.5mm aux jack. The Quad mic logo is placed adjacent to the ports. Buttons on the Esquire 2 include power, Bluetooth, Call, Mic on/off buttons and a volume rocker.
One can charge his smartphone with the USB port provided on the Harman Kardon Esquire 2, for charging the speaker; you would need a micro USB charging cable which is included inside the box. 3.5mm jack allows you to play music directly via any media device; however, there are no auxillary cables included inside the box.
For all the business users conference calling is more important than playing music, and in that division Harman Kardon Esquire 2 excels most of the Bluetooth speakers available in the market. Due to the 3 Pin-hole microphones design provided by Harman and its VoiceLogic sound picking technology, both noise cancellation and sound receiving capabilities perform extremely well in most of the conference calling conditions.
What might surprise many is due to the fact that Esquire 2 is heavily priced, there are hardly any additional accessories inside the box. All you get is a micro USB charging cable, apart from that; there are not any other accessories like Adaptor, Pouch and Aux cable inside the box.
Sound Quality in Music: 8/10
As the music started, folks sitting next to me started enjoying the music to its fullest. There were no complaints about the sound response from the Harman Kardon Esquire 2 as the bass was rich, out was loud and clear. And everyone enjoyed the music to its fullest.
Talking about the preciseness of the sound on Esquire 2, there would be only be a single section left out to focus on. Bass is rich, however sub-bass could be better considering the price at which the speaker comes at. Listening “Thunderstruck from 2 Cellos” was fun, on the other hand as the music dropped to its deepest, the sub bass section lacked detailing. Bass was rich; treble was good quality due to which most of the songs performed really well.
“Cheap thrills from Sia” sounded better than how it played on Logitech UE Boom 2 speaker. Harman has incorporated four professionally tuned sound drivers and a passive radiator that deliver stereo sound, unlike many that throw a unidirectional music. Unidirectional music is regular among most of the Bluetooth speakers, with that being said the sound response of Esquire 2 is way better than any other speaker. It’s like listening a sound bar placed next to a television.
My all time favourite, “Beat it from Michael Jackson” had the best beats of all time on Esquire 2, it never sounded like we’re listening the music on such a small speaker. There was ample sound for a bedroom. Vocals were crisp and loud throughout the movie and music sessions.
Call Quality in Conference Calls
The call quality of Harman Esquire 2 on conference calls is exceptional. Harman’s “VoiceLogic” and echo cancelling technology did extraordinarily well throughout the calling sessions. Testing the speaker might give you Goosebumps as there is no background noise throughout the calling sessions.
It’s as sharp as recording voice in sound studio.
Harman Kardon Esquire 2 houses a 3200mAh battery which delivers a battery life of 8 hours according to Harman. In most of our cases, Esquire 2 performed really well and delivered more than 7 hours of battery life. Which is good considering it to be a conference speaker; however, it’s not the best. As there are brands like UE which offer a battery life of nearly 15 hours, compared to which Esquire 2 might dampen the spirits.
Well, battery life also depends on the volume level at which you’re listening to the music. If it’s low, it generally gives a better battery life.
Nevertheless, Harman could also have used a high capacity battery as most of the budget smartphones come with higher capacity battery.
Harman Kardon Esquire 2 is one of the best conference calling speakers available out there. However, not one of the best Bluetooth music speaker. At a price segment close to 20K, Harman could have included a bunch of features and accessories inside the box. Harman should have at-least packed a charging adaptor with a 3.5mm aux cable. The design of the Esquire 2 should’ve been waterproof just like of UE Boom 2. Its neither waterproof nor shock proof, which again is a limitation compared to the similar priced Bluetooth speakers. However, the calling and sound quality capabilities of Esquire 2 are exceptional. The bass levels are impressive and the treble is good at the same time. Noise cancelling capability of the Esquire 2 is also the best, which makes it one of the best available choices of Bluetooth conference speakers available out there.
