Sidekick 4G

DetailedReview

T-Mobile had come out with the original Sidekick over two years back. During those days, the Sidekick was the best messaging phone around but in these two years so much has changed. Sidekick has been in complete ruins and much of its team has scattered here and there. However the company is back with their new model christened Sidekick 4G which is set to challenge the other Android phones in the market.

Samsung and Sidekick seemed to have formed a lethal combo which is sure to take the world by surprise. The Sidekick 4G has dimensions of about 5 x 2.42 x 0.6 inches and weighs nearly 162 gms. It has a 3.5 inch diagonal LCD display with 16.7 million colour and 480 x 800 pixel resolution. The device further includes Android 2.2 Operating System, slide, tilt up display, internal antenna, 135 MB internal phone memory, 1000 MHz Samsung Hummingbird Cortex A8 processor and pretty much everything. Few of the other features of the same are 3 MP camera, white balance controls, video recording at 480p, threaded style text messaging, memory upgeadeable up to 32 GB, touch screen, Adobe Flash Player 10.1 and multiple language support.

If you are habituated to the 4 inch or the 3.7 inch phones then the screen size of the Sidekick 4G would definitely dissappoint you however having said that, one should note that the LCD of the device is pretty good. The responsive capacitive digitizer screen is placed well, below the Gorilla Glass. While there are many phones in the market which often cannot be gripped properly in the landscape mode, the Sidekick 4G would give you no such trouble at all. In fact, you would be able to reach even the remotest of the buttons quite easily and thus the Sidekick 4G can be termed as a user friendly device.

The Sidekick 4G has most of the things well placed such as the 3.5 mm audio jack, volume buttons, power button and a host of the other things. However you would truly miss the track ball as the small trackpad that site prety atop the device has very little usability and you would know it only when you use it. The Sidekick 4G boasts of one of the best rock solid sliding hinges and thus you may stop worrying about the hinges. Once you push the bottom tip of the display when in landscape mode by 1 cm, the screen automatically makes way for the QWERTY keypad within. Once you take the device in your hands you would surely be mesmerised by the beauty of the Sidekick 4G and its performance.

The Sidekick 4G works pretty well and the main thing that keeps the Sidekick 4G up and running is the QWERTY keypad which allows you to type 35 words per minute without making any mistake. Hence it is the design and the key placement which allows you to achieve the same. The 1500 mAh battery is the same which is used in the other Samsung mid range smartphones and works pretty well. Hence if you are looking for a decent smartphone which would be a good buy then you need not think any further, as the Sidekick 4G is sure going to woo you.
